Based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), most of the medical students must finish at least one semester in any accredited medical university and then they are eligible to be transferred to any other Georgian medical university. Medical students are required to submit some mandatory documents before the transfer to the new university. The official transcripts which must comprise of the course grades that are counted based on the number of training hours and credits awarded for each course according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

For the International medical students, the transfer for placement in advanced year of the academic program students need to adopt the same admission process as for the new students until and unless they have been studying in Georgia before. For the International students who have been transferred, need to show their educational documents and will be assessed by National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement. After the assessment, the documents will be evaluated individually by a committee comprising of professors in the university who are incorporated in the committee based on various criteria. It is not certain that in which academic year will the students be placed in.

For the medical students who have opted for courses like healthcare, nursing, midwifery, dietetics might ignore the possibility of repeating in the first year and if possible, not even repeat the second year as well at the Georgian Medical University. This is for those medical students who have been trained in some basic medical courses which are related to medical science which they have already studied.
